AYF Cheer Rule Book
Cheerleading is a team sport that takes concentration, teamwork, and dedication. Because it is a team sport cheerleading takes all persons working together safely in a controlled and supervised environment.
Our league is built on providing a positive learning experience in something our children can take with them for life. We are dedicated to teaching the children how to be better people while participating in a positive athletic activity. Parents please remember that cheerleading is just as important to your daughter as football is to your son. This is their time to shine also.
PRACTICE
It is important for all girls to be at practice on time and ready to participate. It will be your responsibility to make it to practice on time. It is important for all cheerleaders to participate for the well being of both themselves and the team. Practice will consist of warm up, learning and practicing cheers and chants, dances, motions, stunts, routines, and a cool down period. Full attention and participation will be expected from each cheerleader. There will be a designated area for parents and we ask that parents refrain from interacting with their children during practice. Always make sure that your child has a water bottle with her during practice. Pre season practice will consist of 10-hour weeks; dates and times will be determined by the number of participants.
GAMES
All cheerleaders will be expected to be at all games 75 minutes prior to game time. This time is important for warm ups and any last minute practice of half time or quarter performances. All home games will be at Bolder Creek High School in Anthem. Away games can be in excess of 50 miles, carpool is encouraged. Each participant is expected to provide or arrange transportation to and from all games. We will pass out schedules prior to the season starting.
COMPETITIONS
We will have 1 or 2 competition squads this year. Any girl ages 9-13 may sign up to be on a competitive squad. In addition to cheering at football games, these girls will participate in cheer competitions. Additional practice times, fundraising, and fees may apply and will be determined as the season progresses.
UNIFORMS
Uniforms & Spirit Packs will be provided to your child by DHYFA as a gift to your child. These uniforms need to be taken care of properly throughout the season. There will be an additional fee for accessories (shoes, socks, pom poms, and bows). Cost is to be determined and will be kept at a minimum.
SAFETY
Our number one concern is safety. Cheerleading is considered a vigorous activity. There comes a time when participating in stunting and tumbling are fun and exciting to the girls. To ensure the safety of the cheerleaders they will start at the bottom and work their way up as their comfort zone grows. As always, no jewelry is to be worn at either practices or games.
FUND RAISING
To ensure that seasonal costs are covered, including the end of the season party, each child will be required to participate in fundraising. There will be one main fundraiser and possibly a couple of other smaller ones. Competitive squads may do additional fundraising beyond this to cover their costs.
The registration fee is $125.00. Please see home page for more details. The association fee will also be $100.00, however this is one of the cost that can be offset by fundraisers.
If you have any other questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact the cheer director at cheerdirector@deserthighlandsfootball.com.
